A full mobile rig arrives with pressurized water, tank storage, DC-inverted power for polishers and vacuums, and every product the tech uses in a shop. That covers washing, iron and tar decontamination, clay bar, machine paint correction, ceramic coating, wheel-off details, interior extraction and leather conditioning.
What it can't do: bake paint in a booth, put the car on a lift, or hold the vehicle overnight for a controlled cure. If the job needs any of those, a shop is the right call.
The real cost of a shop detail isn't the price on the invoice — it's the two 30-minute drives to and from the shop plus a wait window that rarely lands where they say it will. For a full detail that's usually 90 to 150 minutes of your day, on top of the service time.
Mobile removes that entire block. You leave the car parked, the tech works, you get on with your day. For anyone charging their own time above minimum wage, that's the whole argument.
Rig acquisition, generator or inverter power, water tank, insurance premiums, and windshield-time between jobs — mobile carries fixed costs a shop doesn't. That gets priced into the service and is usually a ~10–20% premium over the equivalent shop rate.
For maintenance-cadence washing, the delta is small in absolute dollars and mobile pays for itself in reclaimed time. For a $2,000+ ceramic coating, the delta is a rounding error against the total.
Reputable mobile detailers use reclaim mats or biodegradable soaps and manage runoff. Shops connect to storm drains through oil-water separators. Both work — ask before booking either.
